Yesterday we watched the Lady Monarchs of ODU play the number one team in the US UConn. We were 5thseeded to UConn’s 1st seed.
the Lady Monarchs held it close till almost the end of hte first half. They wound up 21 behind, which if it had been any other team they were playing wouldln’t have been a problem for them to back.
After the half close to the end ofhte game they had a run and caught it up to a loss of only 18. Heck of a lot better than the 43 they lost to UConn in the fall.
Way to go Ladies. I”m proud of you for playing a great game.
since I’ve written here. a lot has happened. We are getting GH’s house ready to sell Lots to do painting and yeard work redoing kitchen
have all the computers up and running. finally got my stuff into some sort of order.
ODU women won their 17th straight CAA conference and play NCAA first round Sun night at home. Dancer and Rider will be ball girls for the first session. It’s been a lot of fun going to the games.
We bought our tkts for the NCAA on Monday. Asked for our old seats and wound up with our current seats. I bet if we had asked for our current seats we wouldn’t have gotten them. UNC and VA are also playing here but not each other.
After we win on Tues night then it’s to Greensboro
have the car all registered in VA now.
Still no action on the house in GA It’s being shown about once every 3 weeks or so. Sure wish it would hurry up and sell.
Amazing this year. Both our ODU womens and mens teams made the first round.
Unfortunately both teams lost in their first game. They put up valient efforts and made interesting games until near the end. And they didn’t lose by much.
Mens CAA team VCU, the conference winner, won their first game in the tournament.
We had three womens Conference teams make the tournament. ODU as the conference winner, Delaware and JMU. Not sure yet how DE and JMU made out as the AJC only reports on the GA team and they didn’t make the tournament.
Good luck to the CAA remaining teams.
Last week Dancer called me on her way home from TaeKwonDo and told me she had earned her orange belt.
And that her instructor thinks she’s very good and wants her to stay in.Â
But then she also is great at dance so she’s thinking dance team too. Great things in store for her.
Way to go!Â
Â
It was a good week but a bad week for Virginia sports. First George Mason made the final four and played their last game tonite in INdianapolis. They put up a good fight but didn’t try to come back soon enough. However it was not a rout for Florida. For the first half the game could have gone either way.
Way to go George Mason, the school no one thought would make it thru the first game wiped out Duke and CT.
then the other was the ODU mens team in the NIT. They also put up a valiant fight but lost too.
But both teams gave us a reason for watching basketball in March!
Oh and the other good news both women’s CT and TN lost out in the womens NCAA.Â
Â
Â
Well heart attack city again tonite. The game was won by Old Dominion University tonite in the final 2 minutes. After some accidental bumps and deliberate pushing our men came thru in the NIT against a team they play in the CAA conference.
This will be the Monarchs first trip to the NIT semi-finals. They will play Michigan in Madison Square Garden on Tues night.
And shock of shocks ESPN2 showed the entire game without once breaking to some other game. I can only imagine there wasn’t another game for them to go to.
GO ODU men!!
The Olympics was fussing that the ratings were down. And we’ll probably hear the same thing with the women’s NCAA basketball. No wonder.Â
I love the figure skating but I got so fed up because they only showed two skaters at a time then went to speed skating or skiing or some other venue. I’d wait and wait for the ice skating to come bck but would have to go do something and then I’d miss it. By the time 11pm came I got so fed up I turned off the tv and didn’t see the ending.
This week with the womens NCAA bb I wanted to see the TN game and the Duke game. They only showed a little over the 1st quarter of the TN game on Sunday then kept switching to other games for the last 2 minutes or so of the game. They never showed the Duke game at all.
And tonite it was even worse. They didn’t show the TN game at all and it was relatively close. ANd they didn’t show the Duke game either. Now maybe they did the few minutes here and there that I blinked but I don’t think so.
I”m at the point I don’t care if I see the rest of the games. If Duke or CT winds up playing TN i’ll probably watch that one. By then it should be the only game and maybe they’ll show the whole game.
When they cut the games/tournaments/routines up so much it takes all the fun out of watching and I lose interest quickly. It would seem with the ratings that I’m not the only one that feels this way.
The Lady Monarchs put up a final fight but they lost to George Washington. Tomorrow night Tennessee and Geo. Washington play and Duke of course won their game so they play the game after.
Tink watched all the games yesterday but finally had to leave the last half of the last game. So. CA vs UFL i think.Â
Was disappointed tho. All set to watch the games and ESPN2 pulled the TN game because they led by 20 points before halftime.  Then had to go out for the ODU game and only saw the last 4 minutes of it. And couldn’t find the Duke game at all. By then I just gave up.
Well, the pairings are in! The Ted Constant Center in Norfolk is hosting the first and second rounds of the Womens NCAA tournament.
Old Dominion University plays George Washington University at 2pm on Sunday Mar 19.  This is after the Tennessee/Army game at 12 noon.  This is ODU’s 15th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. What a great team!
Later Sunday evening about 7pm Duke will play Southern, then at 9pm Southern California will play South Florida.Â
The winners of these games will play Tuesday night at the Constant Center.
Great basketball comes to Norfolk once again!
Back to heart attack city. We haven’t had games like this on a regular basis since the mid 90′s. Edge of your seat, down to the last seconds. Has happened several times this year.
Today’s game was the final for the Old Dominion Univ. Lady Monarchs in the Colonial Conference. Unfortunately I didn’t get to but Tink did. She rode up to the DC area with some friends and called me with the last seconds to go. The arena was screaming so loud and she was so hoarse I could barely hear her. Score was 55-54 with just seconds left.
And WE won it! So on to the first game of the NCAA tournament which will be next Sunday in Norfolk at the Ted Constant Center .  We are hosting the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Go Lady Monarchs!!!
