I did something today I haven’t done in years.  I forgot to send Tink a Happy Birthday E-card.  Guess I’ll have to send her a belated one tomorrow.  I sent her a card in the mail so I didn’t forget her.  Guess with her being gone, it slipped by me.  She’ll get her birthday present when she comes visits me the last week of May.

The whole family was active but me this weekend.   Tink went up to Washington DC to see a band with a friend of hers.  The bands name is Great Big Sea.  Great band.   Then today she was able to go to Busch Gardens and had a blast.

Gentle Hands and family went to the Tattoo in Norfolk on Friday night.  If you have a military Tattoo around you they are very much worth going to.   Norfolks is the second biggest in North America and the biggest in the United STates.   The one in June in Halifax Nova Scotia is bigger than Norfolks.     Gentle Hands called me during the performance and said just listen.  But it didn’t come thru the phone too well.  Just the drums and the higher pitches.  They had over 150 pipers and drummers this year.  She said it was just awesome.   This is the first year in about 6 years that Piperdude missed playing in it.  His duties in the Air Force kept him in CAlifornia.

 

As I mentioned the other night, I couldn’t get the printer to work.  I pushed all the buttons and nothing happened.  I rebooted the computer and that little green light was still flashing at me.

I always turn the computer off at night.  This particular computer seems to like being refreshed this way.   So when I started it up the next morning all of a sudden the printer is working and printing out the sheet that was in queue.  

Evidently rebooting the computer is not as good as it turning it completely off.   Now why hasn’t anyone ever told me that?

I was trying to print some lables for PiperDude’s long Air Force address and I just told it to print.  I knew better.  The times I want to use the color printer it just starts printing without asking me which printer.   If I want to use the one with only black ink it asks me.  HOw it decides when to ask me I’ll never know.

The black ink only printer is my default printer, an old HP  500.  And usually if I hit print  it will ask me which printer.  But from Word it evidently just prints.  So I stopped it in mid-page.  And the page wouldn’t come all the way out.    So I started hitting buttons and the page came out.  But it made funny clunking noises  and now my online light is flashing.

I’ve turned it on and off.  I’ve rebooted the puter.  The only thing I haven’t done is to actually unplug it.  I’ll do that tonite after I turn off the puter. 

So we’ll see.  Maybe it’ll work and maybe it won’t.  I hate to lose it as it seems to print forever on one cartridge.  Last time I bought cartridges at Walmart tho, I got the last one  and it was on sale because they’re discontinuing that cartridge.

But I did get the labels done as I have another printer.  The one I would have selected if it had asked me like it usually does.

 

 

Last night while I was in bed and couldn’t sleep because of a pain, I got to thinking.  I take care of my 90 yr old aunt.  What would happen if I couldn’t move or talk?   If she had to call for help?   She’s even worse than I am about technology.  She knows how to answer the phone but not how to use all the features such as memoroy.  this phone doesn’t have speed dial.

We have her son’s number as the number one in the phone’s memory but in a time of stress she’ll never remember to use it.  We have his number on two cabinets in the kitchen.

However if she has to call 911 for me and they see my cell phone I have 3 ICE numbers.  Do you know what ICE stands for?   In Case of Emergency.   I have my cousin’s cell number number, and Tink’s number at work and Gentle Hands cell number.

Do you have ICE numbers in your cell phone?  Supposing you collapse somewhere, or have an accident?  How will emergency know who to call first?  I have my cousin’s number first because he is only 20 minutes from me.  Tink and Gentle Hands are 9 hrs away in VA Beach.

Do yourself a favor and put ICE on your phones.  Oh by the way all 3 of those numbers are on speed dial on my cell phone too.

 

 

 

WordPress said we needed to update.  So my webhost told me to do it thru my cpanel and fantastico.   When I logged in it said I needed an update.  So I held my breath and clicked the upgrade button.   Then another box came up  and wanted my approval before it would actually do the upgrade. 

Holding my breath, I clicked upgrade.  then it came up with a box telling me to save this code in case something went wrong.

Well lo and behold it looks like it worked like it was supposed to. And it didn’t even ask me stupid questions I always guess the wrong answer.

What I have found out from my webhost is that if I had done the upgrade from the admin panel in here  or from wordpress.com  then I would not have been able to do anything thru Fantastico and cpanel for this blog again.

I had thought about it doing from the link in this admin panel but it was to confusing.  Going thru Fantastico I just clicked the upgrades buttons and Voila!  it was done. 

 

 

Anyone who knows me knows I’ve strugged with weight the majority of my life.  As a child I only weighed 36 lbs until I was 6 years old, but I looked fat.  Had those rolls of fat so prominent in the 1940′s baby pictures.

Having babies only made it worse and I eventually ballooned up to way way too much.    I exercise, swim and walk, and since living with my aunt have cut way down and practically out on the junk food. 

So of course, I read all the articles on try this, do this taht are in the women’s magazines and all my trying has resulted in an additional 14 lbs this year.

So here’s an easy one to try.   The April 3 issue of FIRST magazine has an article (on page 32) about these women dropping over 100 lbs. just by deep breathing.

The article talks about how women are being shortchanged with oxygen circulation which then creates weight gain, fatigue and mental fog.   Remember how we’ve always been taught to ‘suck-in’ that stomach.  Well, it’s part of what’s making us fat.

The article makes 5 points on ways that enhanced oxygen intake can lead to weight loss.  The article includes one-minute quiz to find out if you’re oxygen deprived.  And i failed miserably.  Put one hand on your tummy and the other on your chest.  Inhale and exhale slowly thru your nose.   Which hand moved?   If only the hand on your moved that means you’re breathing shallowly.  If the tummy hand moved then you have good oxygen.

Of course, it’s not as simple as just breathing deeply.  There’s a certain way to do it.  

The article also tells us that lemons, salsa, leafy greens and vegetables enhance our oxygen intake.

So i’m all for trying it.  It’s inexpensive, takes no equipment and you can do it in the privacy of your home, office and car.   What is there to lose?  Except weight of course.

It was a good week but a bad week for Virginia sports.  First  George Mason made the final four and played their last game tonite in INdianapolis.  They put up a good fight but didn’t try to come back soon enough.  However it was not a rout for Florida.  For the first half the game could have gone either way.

Way to go George Mason, the school no one thought would make it thru the first game wiped out Duke and CT.

then the other was the ODU mens team in the NIT.  They also put up a valiant fight but lost too.

But both teams gave us a reason for watching basketball in March!

Oh and the other good news  both women’s CT and TN lost out in the womens NCAA.
