We’re getting dry!
Word is that in less than 3 months our Lake Lanier which supplies the water for North GA and parts of Metro Atlanta will be dry. We are over 20 inches below level. That means it will be below the level that the pumps can effectively pump the water out.
The Army Corps of Engineers according to the mandate of hte US FIsheries and Wildlife Dept are releasing billions of gallons water as needed to keep the mussels in FL alive. There are 2 species on the endangered animal list.
In the meantime we have lost 40 million to 400 million mussels and fish and other wildlife but since they aren’t on the endangered list no one in authority cares.
This water released is also supplying a coal power plant in FL and some parts of Alabama.
While the residents are on water restrictions, the commercial buildings are allowed to water and even to put in new plants and sod. They are allowed to water for 30 days on new sod and plants. Now they are talking bout water rationing for us.
Hopefully we’ll get enough rain tomorrow that will help somewhat.
